Legal Setback for Alex Murdaugh: New Trial Denied Amidst Jury Tampering Allegations

Image
In a recent judicial hearing at the Richland County Judicial Center in Columbia, South Carolina, Alex Murdaugh, convicted of a double murder in 2021, was denied a new trial. The denial comes after revelations that a court clerk, Becky Hill of Colleton County, tampered with the jury's decision.   Judge Jean Tory ruled that Murdaugh's attorney failed to sufficiently prove how the communication between Hill and the jury impacted their decision. Murdaugh's appeal centered around allegations of jury tampering, asserting that prejudicial comments from the court clerk influenced the guilty verdict.   During the hearing, all 12 jury members testified, with one juror revealing that Hill's communication had created a perception of Murdaugh's guilt before the verdict. The juror expressed feeling pressured by both the court clerk and fellow jury members to deliver a guilty verdict.   Despite the serious allegations, the judge maintained that the defense did not establish a clea...

The home team, known for their dominance in local conditions, faces a challenge as Virat Kohli is absent for personal reasons in the initial two Tests, a situation the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has requested .    The replacement for Kohli is a crucial decision, with Shreyas Iyer being a strong contender due to his proficiency against spin bowling. Depending on circumstances, KL Rahul might also step up at the No. 4 position.   The bowling combination is a critical consideration. England, taking a bold approach, has opted for three spinners, sidelining James Anderson. India could follow suit, but after the impressive performance of pacers Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, and Jasprit Bumrah in the recent Test against South Africa, the decision to go with two pacers would be noteworthy. The choice might bo...
